Got a new home?
Now that you’re moved in, TV and sofa in moving van, lets look at some key pieces you can use to elevate your living room into a functional, cosy environment.
These choices meet a good price point, covering affordable design without always looking straight to IKEA (only sometimes - see #2).
1. Let’s talk about lighting.
Lighting is everything when it comes to relaxing on your sofa for a cuddle or some wine. €100-€150 is a good price for a floor lamp that will stand as a strong design accessory.
I’ve chosen the Truman Lamp from Made, at €96 inc. post&packaging, 2 day delivery - you can’t go wrong.
2. Now that you’re getting cosy, we’ll sort out a coffee table to put that wine on.
Coffee/side tables can be tricky, how many do you need? What height should it be? What’s your floor space like? This is where a nest of tables fits in perfectly.
The YPPERLIG Nest of tables are a beautiful design using beech wood. They are the perfect look for a contemporary room, with the different sized tables allowing for variety of layouts and usage. Cost €60, 3-5 day delivery.
3. Plants, a reminder to breath.
The importance of plants in interiors is crucial. Plants reduce anxiety, they connect us back to nature and help us to breath – metaphorically and physically.
The Kentia Palm purifies air, it removes unwanted toxins such as formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene from the air we’re breathing in. Purer air lowers anxiety levels and blood pressure, which in turn helps us to calm our mental and physical state. We all need a bit of this in our lives.
Ranging from €35-€125 depending on size, Johns Town Garden Centre deliver in 3-5 working days.
4. A mirror to add dept.
Rooms look bigger and brighter with a mirror in them, they reflect light and give the appearance of more space.
The Coco Medium wall mirror is a contemporary style, with a fluid shape, rather than the standard geometric mirror. Coming in at €79, this mirror is on the more affordable side. For the price and originality in design combo, this may be my favourite pick in this blog.
5. A cosy rug for those cold toes.
Shoes off, feet cosy! Rugs are the essential final touch on my list to add warmth to your living room. But, a good rug is hard to find.
I’ve chosen the Ferm Living Kelim Rug in Merge. This rug stands out amongst a crowded market of rugs that all look the same. The use of natural tones and organic shapes, give this pattern a calming vibe, not sharp edges or vibrant colours to knock off the cosy atmosphere we’ve built up with these five pieces.
From Ferm Living for €225 ex P&P, it works great for me!
These are five strong, cost effective pieces, use them alone or together to create your perfect living room.
Enjoy my picks, and get creative when designing your space!
